Skin Care Myths
Let's face it we all would like the easy way out of doing things right? But easy is not always best, especially when it comes to skin care. Today I'll highlight a few myths about skin care that we've probably all been guilty of.
- Sis sleeping in your makeup is NEVER okay
Throughout the day our face can become oily and have a buildup of dirt and debris. And let's not talk about the dreadful wearing of a mask! That combination alone mixed with makeup can definitely lead to clogged pores and clogged pores can lead to pesky breakouts. Be good to your skin and go the extra mile and cleanse.
- You can exfoliate as much as you like
Wrong! Exfoliating is a very beneficial part of a healthy skin care routine but too much of anything has its drawbacks. Exfoliation helps in healthy cell turnover which is basically the shedding of dirt, oil, and products on the surface of the skin. Over-exfoliating can cause skin irritation and inflammation. Exfoliation varies from person to person and depending on the skin type. I typically advise exfoliation once to twice a week.
- My skin is already oily I don't have to use a moisturizer
ALL skin types need moisture. Adding a moisturizer to the skin actually helps reduce sebum production (oil). Your skin will actually produce more oil to compensate for the lack of moisture. Oily skin types should focus on moisturizers that are oil free and more water based. Sensitive and dry skin types should lean towards moisturizer that are oil based.
- It's okay to pick pimples/bumps out of my face
This is a big NO! Practice patience not picking. Picking and squeezing can cause hyperpigmentation, inflammation and scaring which can sometimes be permanent. Squeezing a pimple might cause more swelling and irritation on the skins surface. Again opt for the other "P" patience not picking.
- I don't need to use toner after cleansing
Think again! Toners can help close pores and reduce the penetration of dirt and impurities into the skin. It also helps to calm the skin after exfoliation and cleansing. Toners should be applied after cleansings and before serums and moisturizers.
And that folks are a few of the common skin care myths that I chose to debunk today. Hopefully, this has helped someone along their skin care journey. The more you #NOIL the more you glow. #NOILYOURSKINWORTH …
